The Drake Exploration Society

The world's only generic Drake society

Aims of the society

  1. To perpetuate the memory of Sir Francis Drake through: constant archival research; the study of the published primary and secondary sources; global fieldwork; lectures and publications.
  2. To be consulted by museums and other learned organisations, to ensure that Drake is accurately represented for all exhibitions and publications worldwide.
  3. To be the organisation to address public enquiries and to provide the official response.
  4. To encourage members to visit Drake's world and thus implement the practical elements of historical study, both at home and abroad. To share such knowledge with other members via illustrated articles published in the Society's journal.
  5. To represent Sir Francis Drake objectively as the personality that he was and that he be judged within the moral context of his time.
  6. To continue to work harmoniously with the long established Drake Navigators Guild in California. To build links with other relevant societies.
