Drake For God, Queen And Plunder
This publication can be ordered and I have seen it in WH Smiths in Plymouth. The book is part of a series of short biographies of significant military and naval characters. The title is a very general biography and tells us nothing new. The book rightfully claims to be concise and a starting point for those who wish to pursue a more advanced study. The text is more narrative than analytical but is well-written. The authors are sympathetic by endeavouring to set Drake and his voyages within the social, political and economic framework of the era. The authors have conducted sound research of both primary and secondary sources. The book fits neatly into a lady's handbag.
