Synopsis

There are scores of Brunel biographies, but this one is different. Michael Turner is the first author to tabulate the Brunel locations that present his life in chronological order, and to include photographs that he took in nine countries. Furthermore, and surprisingly, this is the first biography to include maps of Brunel’s travels and railway routes at home and abroad; hence, this volume reveals comprehensive geographical Brunel knowledge. Interestingly, all the most-known to the least-known of Brunel’s works feature. The Brunel fieldworker, scholar, and armchair traveller alike, will enjoy this publication that encapsulates Brunel’s life: his engineering and landscape gardening achievements, personality, financial affairs, family life and travels at a comprehensive, pictorial glance.
